How to Decorate a Mid-Century Wood Console Table

A vintage wood chest is one of the easiest pieces to build an entryway around, especially when it has the warm grain and curved legs of mid-century design. Here, the chest does double duty as a console table, with plenty of drawer storage hidden below for gloves, mail, or whatever else tends to pile up by the door. A tall rectangular mirror hung just above it grounds the wall and bounces light back into the space, which matters most in entryways that don't get much natural light of their own.

From there, it's really about layering height and texture on the surface. A ceramic table lamp with a linen shade adds warmth on one side, while a glass hurricane and a low candle fill in on the other without competing for attention. A small stack of coffee table books tucked next to a tiny potted plant keeps the lower half of the table from feeling empty, and the grasscloth wallpaper in the background adds texture without fighting the wood grain. It's a simple formula — mirror, lamp, books, candle — but it's the kind of entryway styling that actually holds up day to day.
